The life line arcs around the base of the thumb. In some people, it runs all the way to the wrist. In others, it stops halfway. That length difference has caused endless confusion.
A long life line does not mean a long life. It means, in traditional palmistry, strong vitality, robust constitution, and steady energy. A person with a long life line is said to have good reserves, recover well from illness, and maintain energy over time.
But people with long life lines die. Sometimes young. Sometimes from accidents, sometimes from illness. The line does not protect you. It describes your constitutional energy. Or at least, that is the tradition.
