The life line arcs around the base of the thumb. In some people, it runs all the way to the wrist. In others, it stops halfway across the palm. That shorter version has been misinterpreted for centuries as a sign of an early death.
It is not. Modern palmists are emphatic: the life line measures vitality, constitution, and energy levels — not lifespan. A short life line may suggest someone who tires more easily, or who prefers a quieter, less physically demanding life. Or it may mean nothing at all.
Countless people with short life lines have lived into their eighties, nineties, and beyond. The line's length is anatomical variation, not a death sentence.
