Every base-ten counting system has to end somewhere before it loops back around, and 9 is that final stop. Numerology has treated this literal fact — 9 is the last new digit — as symbolically loaded, reading it as the number of culmination, wisdom earned through experience, and letting go.
Where 6 is described as caring for a household, 9 gets described as caring for something broader: humanity, the world, causes bigger than any one relationship. It's frequently called the "old soul" number, framed as having seen a bit of everything the other eight digits represent and synthesized it into something wiser.
That's a flattering story, and like 6, it comes with a cost attached in most write-ups: a tendency toward self-sacrifice, or a kind of emotional detachment that comes from caring about everyone in general and no one enough in particular.
